4 Handy Android Apps To Save Information For Later Reading

read-later-introEveryday we are bombarded with a bunch of information. While a lot of the information will not hold your interest, there are things you may see on your web you really want to read but don't have the time at that moment.

On your Android devices, one of the most popular services to get your daily fix for information is Google Reader. While there are some good options to share an interesting article, there isn't much in the way of organizing what's saved.

Instapaper is another super popular application for saving a URL for later reading, but alas there is no official Android application yet.

So what should you do?

Here are some Android applications that you can use to save articles for later reading. Most of the applications will work with Google Reader or Instapaper.

1. Read Later for Instapaper

Read Later is an Instapaper app that is really basic and to the point. When you are browsing the web or Google Reader on your Android device, and you see an article you'd like to save for later, Read Later for Instapaper is one of your options to share. There is not an option to see the articles you've saved. Think of this application as a bookmarklet for your Android.

read-later-for-instapaper

2. InstFetch

If you need something where you can save and access the URLs you save to Instapaper, InstaFetch will be more of what you are looking for. With addition of saving the URL, you can read the article and like it, archive it. If you use the pro version, you can even send it to Evernote.

read-later-instafetch

3. PaperSpan

PaperSpan is it's own service and not an application used to save information on another web-app. What sets PaperSpan apart from most of the other applications is the option to create an offline version of the URL. For people on a limited data plan or WiFi only devices, you can see the benefit of this feature.

read-later-paperspan

4. Power Note

Power Note is the official Diigo application for Android. While Diigo is primarily a bookmarking site, part of what Diigo offers is a read later option when you are saving a URL. In the Android app, you have a whole dedicated column for these URLs.

Another cool feature Power Note gives you is the option to upload other notes. You can store images, snapshots, text notes and use your voice to compose text notes. Diigo seems like they are trying to steal some of Evernote's thunder with these additions in their mobile app if you ask me.

Concusion

No matter if you already use a web-based service to save your URLs for later reading or you are just starting out, there is something here to fit your needs. Personally I use Diigo for bookmarking and saving URLs to read later. You may prefer another service based on what your needs are.

How do you remember that cool website or article you spotted on your Android that you want to read later?

exFAT or FAT64 File System(To Access USBs more than 32GB)

exFAT or FAT64 (To Access USBs more than 32GB)
exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table, also sometimes referred to as FAT64) is a proprietary, patent-pending file system suited especially for USB flash drives. Developed by Microsoft, it is supported in Windows Embedded CE 6.0, Windows Vista with Service Pack 1, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008.
exFAT can be used where the NTFS file system is not a feasible solution, due to data structure overhead, or where the file size or directory restrictions of previous versions of the FAT file system are unacceptable.
Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (both x86 and x64) users can add support for exFAT by installing an update from Microsoft. An experimental, open source Linux kernel module that supports the reading of exFAT files is currently under development. A FUSE-based full-featured implementation is currently in beta status. A proprietary, read/write solution, licensed and derived from the Microsoft exFAT implementation, is available for Android, Linux and other operating systems from Tuxera. A proprietary, full-featured implementation—XCFiles—is available fromDatalight. A full-featured implementation for embedded devices —Rtfs—is available from EBS Embedded software. Two third party open source drivers are available for native DOS.
Mac OS X Snow Leopard added exFAT support in version 10.6.5 on November 10, 2010. OS X 10.6.5 and later can read, write, and create exFAT partitions.

ADVANTAGES

The advantages over previous File Allocation Table (FAT) file system versions include:
§  Scalability to large disk sizes: 64 ZiB theoretical max, 512 TiB recommended max, raised from the 16 TiB limit of FAT32 partitions. Note that the built-in Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 can mount and support FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB, but cannot create a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB.
§  Cluster size up to 32 MiB
§  File size limit of 16 EiB (Limited by volume size), raised from close to 4 GiB in FAT32
§  Free space allocation and delete performance improved due to introduction of a free space bitmap
§  Support for access control lists (not supported in Windows Vista SP1)
§  Support for TFAT, a transactional file system standard (optionally WinCE activated function)
§  Provision for OEM-definable parameters to customize the file system for specific device characteristics
§  Support for UTC timestamps (starting with Vista SP2)
§  Timestamp granularity of 10 ms (better than previous FAT versions' 2 s, but worse than NTFS's 100 ns)

DISADVANTAGES

The disadvantages compared to previous FAT versions include:
§  Limited or no support outside PC/Mac environment at present — most current consumer electronics, such as televisions and A/V receivers, can only handle previous FAT versions (this may change with the new SDXC cards and Memory Stick XC requiring exFAT (or the use of third party FAT32 formatting tools which can format past the 32 GiB artificial limit and up to 2 TiB, 8 TiB or 16 TiB depending on environment))
§  The standard exFAT format only uses a single file allocation table and free space map. Previous FAT used alternating tables, as this allowed recovery of the file system if the media was ejected during a write (which occurs frequently in practice with removable media). The optional TFAT component adds support for additional backup tables and maps, but may not be supported.
§  Microsoft has not released the official exFAT file specification, and a license from Microsoft is required in order to make and distribute exFAT implementations
§  Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users must have Service Pack 2 or later and install an update to support exFAT
§  Windows Vista must be Service Pack 1 or later for exFAT support
§  Devices formatted using exFAT cannot be read by any version of Windows prior to Windows XP or by any version of DOS or OS/2 (unless emulated as otherwise).
§  Windows Vista is unable to use exFAT drives for ReadyBoost. Windows 7 removes this limitation, enabling ReadyBoost caches larger than 4 GiB.
§  Subdirectory size is limited to 256 MiB. There is no such limit in FAT32 up to the number of available clusters (that is, up to 2^28 - 11 = 268,435,445).
§  Support for up to 2,796,202 files per subdirectory only,. There is no such limit in FAT32 up to the number of available clusters (that is, up to 2^28 - 11 = 268,435,445).

Note: To Access exFAT in Windows XP required a hot fix, can be downloaded from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704

Be aware of the loss of time!

I want to tell you, before installing any software, I recommend you to read the manual that comes with the soft. Why? To avoid mistakes and waste of time. When you open your devices' manual go to the system requirements and the instructions to know if your computer and your operating system meet the requirements. If you don't have the manual please google it.  Nobody want to read the manual that is provided with the devices. they want to gain a time and they jump  to the installation but at the end they spend a lot of time. Some software also are their dependencies, you should install them before go ahead. For example, if you want to  Install Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK). When you open Microsoft website, and when you scroll down, Microsoft recommendations are:

System requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vista

Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003 SP1; Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista
Windows XP SP2 with KB926044
Windows Server 2003 SP1 with KB926044
Windows Server 2003 SP2
Windows Vista family

Top of page
Instructions
1. Click the Download button on this page to start the download
2. Click Save or Save this program to your computer. Windows AIK is distributed as an .img file.
3. Burn the saved img to a DVD
4. Insert the DVD into the machine
5. Click Windows AIK Setup to begin the installation

All you need to succeed the AIK installation is written above, just follow the instructions. Please take a time to consult your manual before starting anything. You will gain time to do something else and also money. Of course time is money, isn't it? I want to make you aware of the loss of time, good luck.

10 Useful Tips To Master Facebook Timelines For Pages - Make Tech Easier

TimelinePages-logoIf you are not aware, Facebook will be replacing all the Pages with the Timeline view. After March 30th, whether you like it or not, the timeline view switch will be permanent and you will have to utilize it for all your business activities. The new Timeline layout allows you to market and advertise your brand better than original pages and adds an opportunity to boost engagement with your fans. The change will bring more work for Facebook page administrators initially because the preparation of the pages will take some time and hard work to get just right, but we'll walk you through the process to make it easier. Here's what you need to know to create the best Facebook Timeline Pages.

Tip 1. Get Familiar with the Timeline Layout

Before you panic about changing to the new Timeline format and not being able to change back, you should know that you can edit and design your new Timeline page in the Admin mode (not visible to the public) and launch it only when it is ready, or until March 30th. During this time, your current fan page will remain active until you publish your Timeline page.

To activate your Timeline preview and begin playing around with the new interface, go to the Timeline for Pages Preview Manager or use the Preview button in the header of your current Facebook Page. When you click the Preview button to start the upgrade, look for the Start Tourtab. It will take you step by step through the process of setting up your new Timeline.

TimelinePages-preview

Tip 2. Design Your Cover

The first, and most important step of the setup is creating your cover. The cover is something you want to put some time and thought into. The larger than life banner is the first thing visitors see when they open your brand page, so make sure it represents what your organization is all about. The banner spreads all the way across your page at a giant 851 pixels wide x 315 pixels tall, so choose images that are no smaller than 399 pixels wide. They should be visually stunning and high resolution for the best results. If you aren't able to find the right image or don't want to go through the process, there are many pre-made and customizable Facebook cover options like the one I used below.

TimelinePages-cover

Tip 3. Add Your Profile Pictures

The profile picture cube will now be 180 x 180 pixels and will appear in news feeds at 30 x 30 pixels. Check your image to be sure that it looks good in the Timeline cover as well as the smaller thumbnail in the news feed.

Tip 4. Cover Guidelines

There are certain guidelines to be taken into consideration as you start to put together your graphic display for your cover.

"Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties' intellectual property. You may not encourage or incentivize people to upload your cover image to their personal timelines"

That means you aren't allowed to display calls to action of any kind. Listing product pricing or promotions of a certain % off, directing visitors to your website for downloadable material, or listing contact info or website address in your cover are strictly prohibited.

Tip 5. Admin Panel

Some of the best features added to the new pages will be the Admin panel and the option to receive messages. For businesses that market to consumers, this feature will be particularly useful because it allows more personal communication with individual customers. It can help improve customer service by minimizing customers blasting your Facebook page with complaints and comments before they have given customer service a chance to fix it.

The Admin panel is now the dashboard for your Timeline. Similar to a blog dashboard, you can share something on your wall or communicate with fans from one convenient place. In the Messages section, you'll see any message sent to you from page visitors and will be able to respond to them directly from the dashboard. If you prefer to respond privately to messages sent to you, that's an option in the messages section as well. If you prefer not to allow messages, simply uncheck the message option box in your Admin settings. The bottom half of the Admin panel will show your site stats such as how many new likes your page has and insights to the demographics of the people who like your page.

TimelinePages-admin

Tip 6. Inserting Images and Feature Posts

Many brands use images and videos as ways of advertising or educating consumers about their product. They will now be displayed more prominently in the Timeline to highlight or emphasize your posts. Just like the Highlight feature in the personal Timeline, you can also feature or highlight a post in Facebook Pages.  Just click the Star icon in the top right corner of a post to make it the feature post. It will now display across the Timeline in prominent view.

TimelinePages-highlight

Tip 7. Pin It!

If there's a certain event or feature article you want to keep at the top of your feed, you can Pin It to the top of your Timeline for up to a week. Simply hover over the top right corner of your post and click on the Pencilicon. When the drop down menu opens, select Pin To Top.

TimelinePages-pinit

Tip 8. Preview Your Post Before Making It Live

In the same drop-down menu, there's also an option to preview your post before making it live. Simply write your post and select the Hide From Page tab. The ability to edit your post in preview mode can be handy for catching anything that needs to be changed before it reaches the public or for creating posts for a future launch or promotion. The post will display on your Timeline, but only you will be able to see it. You can change it at any time by clicking it again and choosing another viewing option.

Tip 9. Page Popularity

Under your Timeline cover will be a row of tiles for the apps where you will find the Likes box. Clicking on the Likes box will display how many likes your brand page has, the demographics of the viewers, and the trending topics chart. A controversial part about this feature is that you can go to a competitor's page and see their stats in their Likes box tile because it's visible on all Timeline pages, not just your own. Companies may be able to hide that by moving it beyond the top 12 apps that can be viewed by the public. The downside of doing that is you're also hiding the popularity of your page.

TimelinePages-apps

TimelinePages-insightbox

Tip 10. Creating a History-rich Timeline

Since there's no longer an app landing page option, you will want to make your Timeline history-rich with as much information about your brand as possible. Using the Milestones feature would be a great way to display your founding date, reaching a target number of customers, or big accomplishments like acquisitions. In the Status box, click on the Milestone tab. Enter in the event information and upload a photo that represents the event. Click save, and it's preserved in your Facebook history.

 Conclusion

I hope you feel more equipped to begin your Timeline Pages journey with all you have learned! Keep the cover guidelines in mind and use the features we highlighted to make your timeline something you are proud of. Stay tuned for an article on Facebook Offers, the next feature set to roll out of the Facebook production room. Let us know what you want to learn more about by leaving a comment!
