WHAT IS GENYMOTION?

GenyMotion is a Android emulator based on Virtual-box. It is really a cool tool for developers to test their apps on different version of android from single computer with single installation.

GenyMotion uses virtual-box so it is so fast than another Android Emulator like Bluestacks. You need not to worry about your favorite games being struck while playing.

As mentioned above Genymotion is based on Virtual-box therefore it uses the snapshots of the Existing devices.Using of these snapshots lets us to run any android version of any Android devices like Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy s2, HTC ONE X and many more other devices on your single computer look below in the image I am using Google Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Moto X

• GenyMotion has a camera widget too which lets you to use your webcam as your front cam or the Back Cam of your Android Phone.
• And GenyMotion has a GPS widget too which lets you to set the GPS location.

HERE ARE THE PROS & CONS OF THE GENYMOTION

You should read this before you continue further installing Genymotion on your computer.

Pros:

• It works super fast when compared to other Android emulators.
• You can test almost all the versions of Android and devices without any problem.
• You can use the accelerometer and other sensors( Pro version features)
• And you can also get the custom ROM's running on your computer.
• All the  Android version that we run come with Superuser access i.e they are rooted!
• Completely Developer friendly and normal user friendly.
• And finally it is free( for personal use).

Cons:

• There is no official support to use Google Services i.e no Google play store.
• Can't run on low end systems minimum 2GB RAM is required.
• The virtual devices(Snapshots) which we need to run are so huge so we need to wait for downloading.

SETUP GUIDE TO GET STARTED RUNNING GENYMOTION:

GenyMotion supports the all the three platforms Windows, MAC and Linux.
Here for the tutorial we are covering on installing and running the Genymotion on Windows computer.


1- Installing GenyMotion on Windows:

• First get the latest version of Genymotion from here [official link] you need to register a free account to get the download link so first register with GenyMotion.
• GenyMotion is offering the installers in two versions with Oracle Virtual-box and another installer without Oracle VirtualBox. If you are computer is not installed with oracle virtual then you can install the first one as shown in image.
• If you computer has then the second version of installer as shown in below image.

After downloading run the executable file and install on your computer. The installation of GenyMotion on your computer is straight forward it is just like installing the normal software. There is nothing you need not worry about to configure the settings while installing.

2- Creating Virtual device on GenyMotion:

• After completion of installation, We need to create the virtual device to run your android on your computer.
• To create virtual device click on the + icon or press Ctrl+N.

• As soon as you click there will be a new popup window where you can choose the android version and the devices too from available devices. As shown in below image.

• If you are not developer you can go ahead directly and choose the device which you want to run on your computer.
• After selecting the your favorite device to run on your computer wait for some time. It takes time to download the required files (Snapshots) which are huge files around 200MB.
• After completion of download of the snapshots on your computer. Give a name to your  android machine.

• And now click on Play icon to run the Android machine on your computer. As shown below image.

• That's it you have completed everything to run your favorite Android version on your computer.

HERE ARE SOME SCREEN SHOTS OF ANDROID EMULATOR RUNNING:

The only thing that hurts you is that you can't install the apps directly from the Google play-store. Because the Genymiton had removed support to install the Google play store and Google services. According to the Genymotion developers, they are trying to work with Google and add the Google Apps back. So till then we need to wait. But we can't right!
